TimeClock 1.0 Project time manager for Windows
2-WINDOW SEP94 TIMECLOCK PROJECT MANAGER TAXES BUSINESS

Do you use your computer for business as well as pleasure? Then TimeClock
can save you money at tax time!
TimeClock is a Windows program that keeps track of time you've spent on
your computer. Time is charged to one or more "projects" from your list by
"punching in" when you begin work on each project. In addition, projects
may be grouped into different "categories" (e.g. business and pleasure)
that you choose. To give one example, this will greatly simplify your
computation of the percentage of time your computer was used for business
purposes, and thus the percentage of its value that you can depreciate or
deduct as a business expense on your taxes.
The reporting program summarizes usage by both project and category, giving
hours and percentage of time spent in each. If you categorize your
projects as business and non-business, the bottom line is the figure that
you need for IRS Form 4562 Depreciation and Amortization, lines 23c and
24c. In addition, you can answer "Yes" on line 22b which asks whether you
have written evidence to support the claimed business use: this may reduce
the chances that your return will be selected for audit. [The line numbers
were from 1993 tax forms, and may differ in other years.]
There are other time manager programs, but TimeClock is simple (so simple
that you might actually use it), it does the job, and is less expensive
than the others.
